Our next 3-day training: TBA
The General Health Educators program trains bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteers to give community health presentations focused on preventive health and gaining access to medical services. Volunteers are required to attend a training session that takes place over an entire weekend where they will learn about the basic needs of the Latino community, preventive healthcare with a Latino focus, and how to point Latinos toward accessible medical services. Each volunteer will be asked to give a maximum of four 2-hour presentations over the course of the year following their training.
During their training, volunteer Health Educators are provided with the tools and resources needed to communicate with cultural competence to the people that compose the diverse Latino communities in the Portland metropolitan area. Edúcate Ya will coordinate with the Health Educators to create community group presentations in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Clark counties. Edúcate Ya will also provide all the information needed for the presentations such as brochures, flyers, and referrals.
