The Health Educators program trains bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteers to give community health presentations focused on preventive health and gaining access to medical services. Volunteers are required to attend a training session that takes place over an entire weekend where they will learn about the basic needs of the Latinx community, preventive healthcare with a Latinx focus, and how to point Latinxs toward accessible medical services.
During their training, volunteer Health Educators are provided with the tools and resources needed to communicate with cultural competence to the people that compose the diverse Latinx communities in the Portland metropolitan area. Each volunteer will be asked to give a maximum of four 2-hour presentations over the course of the year following their training.
