General Health Educators

This is a program consisting of 10 Bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteers who want to become trained as Health Educators. The Health Educators are required to attend a full weekend training to become prepared and aware of the basic needs that Latinos need to know and understand in order to access medical services. The main goal of the educators will be community presentations which will include education on preventive health so Latinos can learn how to navigate, how to access, and how to utilize medical services whether they have medical insurance or not. Each volunteer will be asked to give a maximum of four 2-hour presentations in 2007.

During their training, the volunteer Health Educators are provided with the tools and resources needed to communicate with cultural competence to the people that compose the diverse Latino communities in the Portland metropolitan area. The presentations will be given in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark counties. Edúcate Ya will help the Health Educators with coordination of the community groups where they will be presenting their two hour presentations. Edúcate Ya will also provide all the information needed for the presentations such as brochures, flyers and referrals.

We are currently recruiting bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteers to participate in this training. For more information call (503)238-5790 or e-mail april@educateya.org
