Edúcate Ya has developed the Latino Health Educators HIV/AIDS Program. The goal of the program is to train a group of Latino health educators who will be responsible for delivering culturally sensitive HIV prevention information to high-risk Latinos in the Portland metropolitan area. These health educators will deliver a series of presentations as well as disseminate written information in the form of posters, flyers, and brochures in both English and Spanish.

The next training is on September 9, 10 & 11, 2011.

During their training, the volunteer Health Educators are provided with the tools and resources needed to communicate with cultural competence to the people that compose the diverse Latino communities in the Portland metropolitan area. The presentations will be given in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark counties. Edúcate Ya will help the Health Educators with coordination of the community groups where they will be presenting their two hour presentations. Edúcate Ya will also provide all the information needed for the presentations such as brochures, flyers and referrals.

Requirements for Health Educators:

  • Must be bilingual
  • Attend 3-day training
  • Commit to give at least four health presentations throughout the year (in Spanish)
