Spanish Literature Class
Starting on Tuesday January 10th, 2011 from 7:30 to 9:30pm.
We will be concentrating on the short stories of Cristina Pacheco using her book -Sopita de Fideo-. We will be studying the specific vocabulary, style, and themes of each short story. The idea is to get more involved in the Spanish language and practice the language commonly spoken in Mexico. The class is for advanced students of Spanish, the class will last 15 weeks and each class will be 2 hours long. Each of the students will be able to present one of the short stories (more than once) and their own insights and perspectives. The goal of the class is finishing the book and to have a better understanding of the language. We can only have 8 students and if you want to participate you must sign up for the 15 weeks. The cost of the class is $ 300.00 plus you need to purchase the book.
Introduction to Translating and Interpreting Class
Starting on Wednesday October 12th, 2011 from 7:30 to 9:30pm.
This class will teach the basic principles of Translating and Interpreting, some historical information to help us understand the development of these two skills and how they have become a career opportunity for those who are bilingual in Spanish/English. We will practice translating a variety of documents and we will explore our own ability for Interpreting. At the end of the class we will be able to see if we want to pursue a career in any of these fields but also we will be able to evaluate ourselves as bilingual individuals. We can only have 8 students for this class and the cost is $300.00 plus the cost of materials which is $35.00. The length of the class is 15 weeks. This class is for bilingual individuals in Spanish/English only. We need to have 8 students to be able to offer this class.
Introduction to Medical Interpreting
Starting on Tuesday November 8th, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
This class will teach the principles of Medical Interpreting and the concentration will be in developing Medical Terminology vocabulary. This class will be helpful for those who are thinking of becoming interpreters in the medical field. This class will help them to evaluate and better their language skills in both language and in adding the medical terminology to explore the possibilities to work in this field. There are some other programs that offer more advance specialization in the field and a certification but there is not a State certification available yet. The class will help students to see if they would like to continue with this career goal in their future. The cost of the class is $300.00 plus the cost of materials $35.00. The length of the class is 15 week. This class is for bilingual individuals in Spanish/English only. We need to have 8 students to be able to offer this class.
Taller de Ortografía (Writing and spelling in Spanish)
Starting on Thursday November 13th, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
This class if for individuals/students who want to improve or better their skills in writing and spelling in Spanish. The class will be taught only in Spanish and you must be almost bilingual or your level of the language must be advanced. We will be writing in Spanish and working on rules of accentuation, spelling and composition in Spanish. The cost of the class is $300.00 plus the cost of materials $35.00. The length of the class is 15 week. This class is only for bilingual individuals in Spanish/English only. We need to have 8 students to be able to offer this class.
